WHO WE ARE Our committee, consists of an elected parent executive as well as parent members, meet to share ideas and provide input to the school regarding programs and events. A different school trustee is assigned to our school each year and this trustee provides two-way communication between our council and the school board. Teachers also send a representative to each of our meetings. WHAT WE DO As the parent council, we meet to share ideas and discuss events and concerns in our school. We also organize and host information sessions for parents on various topics throughout the year. Finally, we partner with the Fundraising Society to plan and host annual school community family events such as the Family Dance, Family BBQ and Staff Appreciation Luncheon. Fundraising news . . . Who We Are . . . The Muriel Martin Fundraising Society is a non- profit society that raises funds to enhance learning opportunities within our school. All parents of students attending Muriel Martin Elementary School are voting members of the Society. What We Do . . . The Fundraising Society coordinates school and community fundraising activities and grant applications that generate funds to support programs and initiatives intended to enhance learning opportunities for students. As well, the Fundraising Society provides services such as the hot lunch program and funds school community events such as the Family Dance and the Year End Barbeque. Last year the funds raised by our students were directed to the climbing wall expansion, library shelves and reading rug, dishwasher for the kinder kitchen, African drums for the music program, learning and tables and benches outside the school. Funds are disbursed within the school year in which they are raised. (see pictures on back) We have committed this year’s fundraising efforts to the creation of an outdoor classroom.
