One year ago, in July 2009, my son and I drove to New-Mexico. We had an amazing time visiting wonderful Native sites such as Mesa Verde, Chaco Culture National Park, Taos Pueblo, and many others. We walked 8 kilometers in the desert, we visited caves, we went down several canyons to reach archeological sites, and, of course, we drove hours and hours from one destination to the other.

Along the road, one sign caught my attention. It was an advertisement board for the US Armed Forces. It said this:

“We do not take application. We take only commitment.”

Sir George Simpson School is blessed with a team of wonderful educators and support staff who truly live their commitment to your children. I often said to my young teacher-apprentices at the University that teaching is not a job but a true vocation. Educating a child requires a total commitment to the ones we are entrusted to teach.

To all students, as we begin a new school year, I invite you to give the same kind of commitment to our school. Sir George Simpson is not a mere building where one goes to take courses. Sir George Simpson is a community where you will be called to give the very best of yourself in all what you do. You will be called to share your talents and your own gifts with your teachers, your friends and even with our community. You will be called to commit to your own dreams and aspirations. With such a commitment, I know that you will get the most from your journey at Sir George Simpson.

Welcome back! Bienvenue! I wish you all a very good school year.
